Thanks for the links Jelly.  My grandad loved the medlar jelly with his pork chops and is now eagerly awaiting the next crop as he has finished the jar!  Last year was my first real crop from the tree, previously I only got a couple of fruits.  This year the tree has put on loads of growth already and I can see lots of buds so am hoping for lots more fruit !  I shall take a piccy of the tree when the blossom is out.  Grin

Ladies ...  have just found this thread, the cardboard box of fruit that I was given on firework night is more than ready to be dealt with from what I have read !!  Grin

... what I would like to know is what sort of quantities do you get from 3lbs fruit.

and ...

... do you scrape out the gunge or lob all of the fruit into pan and simmer prior to straining Huh

I have just picked my first crop of medlar fruits.  I have 34 fruits in all, they are the size of clementines and feel soft and ready to make my maiden batch of medlar preserve.

I have had a love affair with the medlar ever since I first saw a beautiful tree in the Oxford Botanical Gardens back in 1962.  Does anyone know this tree?

I wonder if anyone has a recipe for medlar wine ?
Our tree has a good crop on it and it would be a shame not to use them all  Smiley
